Tour de Haute Pointe

The route crosses several passes around Haute Pointe, culminating in the Plateau de Sommand at 1958 m, between wilderness and alpine pastures.

This itinerary offers a great chance of seeing chamois and marmots on this route, and of meeting cows and sheep on the mountain pastures in summer!

From the lake, follow the main road to the left towards Col de la Ramaz, then at the restaurant Le Matafan, take the small road rising to the left (hamlet of La Mary) which becomes a path after the last chalet.
last chalet. Follow the signs to the Col de Cordon.
1/ Cross the pass on one of the two paths leading to Les Charmettes d'en bas. Turn right onto a wide track, then at the last chalet continue on the small grassy path and follow the signs to Col de Chavanais. Take care! Very steep, steep slope from km 3.5 to the Col de Chavanais.
2/ At the Col, continue right on a narrow path on the northern flank of Haute Pointe towards the Col de Chavan.
3/ From the Col, it's possible to make a return trip to the summit of Haute Pointe (100m ascent, dotted line on map). Then head back down to the Sommand plateau, taking the narrow path towards "Le Coin" farm. Continue on a wide track to the Col de la Ramaz road.
4/ Cross the Col de la Ramaz road (RD 308) and take the small road to the left of the Chalets de la Ramaz to the Sommand parking lot.
