Literary event organized by Criou Livres and the Samoëns media library Tome 4 " Famille, je vous... " will take place from October 15 to 19, 2025 Sainte Famille, fils de bonne famille, belle famille and other bastilles*? "Families, I hate you! Closed homes; closed doors; jealous possessions of happiness" asserted André Gide (1869-1951) in his book Les nourritures terrestres. An invitation to get rid of what alienates us, starting with the family unit (a place of confinement?). A few decades later, Hervé Bazin (1911-1996) responded with "Let's put it more simply, give or take two letters: Family, I've got you". It's an established fact that you can't choose your family. And countless writers, from Montaigne to Victor Hugo, from Marcel Proust to Jules Renard, from Giraudoux to Claudel and many others, have filled pages and pages trying to exorcise the family circle, parent-child relationships, patriarchy, the nurturing mother, sibling rivalry, generational conflicts, domestic violence, alcove stories, family secrets, divorces... The foundations of the family - the couple, procreation, filiation - are now fragile and under attack. From compromises to divergences, from separations to absences, from reproaches to unspoken words, "families are composed, decomposed and recomposed, remaining, whatever their form, the place where the fundamental links at the origin of new links outside the family circle are exercised" (Jacques Lacan, 1901-1981). The hearth, a burning, incandescent subject. The 2025 edition of Feuillets d'Automne is sure to fan the embers of this burning subject, shedding new light and putting the family on the grill. *Bastille: arbitrary power or means of enslaving men (Larousse dictionary).
