Mountain landscape photographs.
Exhibition open during the media library's opening hours.
David Casartelli’s photography exhibition is titled "Élévation, Montagnes du Giffre et Mont Blanc: From Shadow to Light, a Journey Within..."
The Giffre mountains are among those landscapes that transform the people who traverse them. Through the changing seasons—amidst dawn mists and winter light—they reveal what we carry inside us: fatigue and doubt, but also the capacity to keep going, to contemplate, and to rise.
The Élévation photo exhibition was born from this journey, unfolding across seasons and years. It features images from the book of the same name—currently being prepared for publication (due October 2026)—which David Casartelli will present on October 16 at 6:30 PM at the Samoëns media library. These are photographs captured in the moment, accompanied by texts woven like mountain paths—crafted for those who love the mountains and for those seeking, deep within themselves, the meaning of the ascent.
With Élévation, David aims to share an experience: a way of looking at the terrain, the skies, the textures, the mists, and the seasons—and at what the mountains awaken within us.
This "elevation" is not merely about reaching mountain peaks; it is social, professional, internal, and personal. It mirrors the mountain experience in that it demands constancy, discernment, respect, and presence. It is built through repeated small victories, measured choices, and steadfast commitment to a clear direction. It is about becoming better than the day before—not rising higher than others, but becoming more authentic, more clear-sighted, and more present to what truly matters to oneself.
And then, one day, as you gain altitude in the Giffre mountains, the light breaks open. Your gaze reaches further than usual. The lines of the landscape come into sharp focus, like a thought finally finding its words. And there, at the edge of one’s gaze, it appears: Mont Blanc.
It is not a trophy. It is a direction. Silent, immense, and indifferent, it stands as proof that when we ascend with humility, our perspective shifts. We do not conquer the world; we gain clarity. And that clarity changes everything.
"This book and this exhibition represent that journey: from shadow to light."
